If you live outside a major city where public transportation isn’t often an option, or if you do live within a major city and use your car a lot (looking at you, rideshare drivers), you could likely benefit highly from having a credit card that rewards you at the pump. This includes both credit cards that reward you in gas savings, and then those that just give you plain, across-the-board points and bonuses.
If your interest is piqued, here are some of the best credit cards for gas rewards.
1. BP Visa Credit Card
The BP Visa credit card is more or less lauded as one of the best co-branded credit cards that features an actual gas station brand. If BP stations are prevalent in your area, this is certainly a credit card to consider.
For the first 90 days after opening your card, you receive 25 cents off per gallon for every $100 you spend on your card anywhere except BP’s competitors. However, you can’t fill up on more than 20 gallons in one purchase.
After the initial 90 days, you receive 25 cents off each gallon for every $100 you spend at BP; 15 cents off each gallon for every $100 spent on groceries, dining and travel; and 5 cents off each gallon for every $100 spent everywhere else (barring BP competitors).
The card comes with no annual fee. Again, if BP gas stations are prevalent in your area of the country and you’re looking to get plenty of savings at the pump, this could be the right card for you.

2. Citi Premier Card
If you buy a lot of gas but also want to earn points on other purchases and then use those points for a variety of things, look to the Citi Premier Card. You receive 3 points for every $1 spent on not just gas, but also tolls and parking. Beyond the driving-related points-earning potential, you receive 3 points for every $1 spent on ride shares, public transportation, airplanes, rental cars and more.
The card does come with a $95 annual fee.

3. Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card
Yes, there is a travel co-branded credit card that can reward you big at the pump! The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card gives you a whopping 6 points for every eligible $1 you spend at gas stations in the United States. You earn 12 points for eligible Hilton purchases.
As far as hotel rewards programs go, Hilton Honors doesn’t always offer the best value for its points (so don’t get too excited over those six points — they don’t stretch that far). But if you’re already a member, are loyal to the brand and know you stand to earn some points at the pump, this is a card to consider.

4. Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi
If you purchase a lot of gas at Costco (or actually, anywhere else), this card is a real winner. You’ll get 4% back on all of your gas purchases (on up to $7,000 of purchases per year); 3% back on travel and dining; 2% back on Costco purchases; and 1% back on everything else.
There’s no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. This card is simple, straightforward and easy to use.

5. Amex EveryDay Preferred Credit Card from American Express
If you want to use your gas purchases to earn points to pay for future travel, the Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card that’s part of the Amex Membership Rewards program could be a good option for you. Membership Rewards points are pretty valuable in the travel rewards world. You can use them to book travel with an array of brands.
This card, in particular, gives you 2x points at U.S. gas stations, alongside 3x points at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $6,000 on eligible purchases per year) and 1x points on everything else. But, if you use your card 30-plus times in one billing period, you’ll get 50% more points for the month.

Bonus: Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
While the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card doesn’t have a specific benefit for gas purchases, it does earn 2x miles per $1 spent on every purchase. That means you can rack up miles pretty quickly. Plus, if you aren’t loyal to one hotel chain, the Capital One Venture Rewards has an offer that lets you earn 10x miles per $1 spent at hotels.com/venture when you book and pay for your accommodations on your Venture Rewards card.
This card also comes with a fee credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. Although the Venture Rewards is considered one of the top credit cards for travel, it’s worth noting that the Chase Sapphire Preferred is also a good contender if you want to earn more for travel.
