Flexible Travel Credit Cards

When you want a card that earns points that can be redeemed for any travel purchase, consider these two cards.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

As the most flexible travel rewards credit card, the Chase Sapphire Preferred will give you 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,000. This bonus is worth $625 in award travel.

You will earn two Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1 on every travel and dining purchase. Your Chase points are most valuable when redeemed for the following two benefits.

  • Book award travel on Chase for 1.25 cents each
  • Transfer to a Chase Ultimate Rewards travel partner

Chase points are some of the most valuable rewards points in the industry.

These credit cards have helped us travel in style.

Airline Rewards Credit Cards

This airline rewards credit card can quickly add some miles to your account.

Hotel Rewards Credit Cards

There are some good hotel rewards offers available as well.

IHG Rewards Club Select (expired)

This is one of the easiest travel bonuses you can get and it’s a limited time offer. The IHG Rewards Club Select will give you 80,000 bonus points after spending $1,000. You will also get a 5,000-point bonus, good for one free night, by adding an authorized user.

Rewards nights start at 5,000 points so you can get 16 free nights from these bonus points. And, the $49 annual fee is waived for the first year.

Each year, you will receive one free anniversary night that can be redeemed at any IHG property from the Holiday Inn brands, Candlewood Suites, or even the Crowne Pointe or Staybridge Suites. This anniversary night pays for the $49 annual fee every single year.

Additional card benefits include:

  • Automatic Platinum Elite Status
  • 10% point redemption bonus
  • 5 points per $1 spent on IHG purchases
  • 2 points per $1 on dining, gas, and grocery purchases
  • 1 point per $1 on everything else

Premium Travel Card

Platinum Card from American Express

Another premium travel credit card that can be just as valuable is the Platinum Card from American Express. Its 60,000 points sign-up bonus after spending $5,000 is worth at least $600 in air travel.

If you spend a lot of time in the air, the Amex Platinum will let you rack up the points quickly as you will earn five points per dollar on airfare and hotel purchases. This is the highest airfare purchase reward rate for any travel rewards credit card.

You will also enjoy luxurious travel benefits including:

  • $200 annual air travel
  • $200 in Uber credits
  • Complimentary access to The Centurion Lounge, International American Express, Priority Pass, and Delta Sky Club
  • Elevated Hilton Honors and SPG membership status

Additionally, cardholders can get up to $100 in statement credits annually for purchases at Saks Fifth Avenue on their Platinum Card®. That’s up to $50 in statement credits semi-annually. However, they must be enrolled for this benefit to apply.

The Platinum Card from American Express is a top contender to the Citi Prestige and can be more beneficial if you want a credit card that earns more on flight purchases. Points can be directly redeemed from American Express for award travel or transferred to an airline travel partner on a 1:1 basis.
