Make sure your accounts have the right credit card on file

Each Friday, we feature a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Tina L., who wrote in saying:

“My husband and I traveled recently to Montreal to begin a cruise. While waiting for a connecting flight, I noticed an email that said our hotel reservation for Montreal had been canceled. A bit of panic set in while on our way to another country with a hotel cancelation. When we arrived, the clerk told us they had run our card for a $1 charge, it was denied and therefore our reservation was canceled. As it turned out, we had used a third-party company to book the room (Booking.com) and our credit card had been updated since I had made the reservation. When updating all other auto pay bills, it never occurred to me that I needed to update the card with Booking. Lucky for us, the hotel still had a room. But, lesson learned—if you ever have a credit card canceled and replaced, update your card for any future travel reservations.”

A great tip: Make sure the credit card on file is the right one. Thanks, Tina!

Also when you receive a renewal card, the expiration date will have changed so any recurring charges will be bounced
