I recently wrote that the biggest travel trend so far in 2021 is the that more and more businesses, restaurants, theatres, museums, destinations and even countries are now requiring visitors to be fully vaccinated.
Last month, France and Italy made these bold announcements and now you can add New York City to the list of destinations that will require vaccination for numerous things. According to the New York Times, “New York City will become the first U.S. city to require proof of vaccination for a variety of activities for workers and customers — indoor dining, gyms and performances — to put pressure on people to get vaccinated, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday morning.”
At a news conference, Mayor de Blasio said, “It’s time for people to see vaccination as literally necessary to living a good and full and healthy life.”
The vaccine mandate will begin on September 13. To enter indoor venues, everyone must use the city’s new digital app, the state’s Excelsior app or a paper card to show proof of vaccination. Dining outdoors does not require showing proof of vaccination but good luck with that once November rolls around.
No doubt this will make those who are unvaccinated stay away from New York City. But on the positive flip side, this should attract more business and leisure travelers than usual. Personally, I wouldn’t want to go to a conference, restaurant or theater without knowing that everyone who’s eligible has been vaccinated. I expect other cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago to follow suit.

Why would you care if the people at your “conference, restaurant or theater” are vaccinated? You do know that the vaccine doesnt stop transmission? You know it also doesnt stop people from getting the virus? Im curious as to what about the vaccine makes you (a vaccinated person I assume)feel safer around other vaccinated.
