We’ve had to wait a little bit longer this year for Amazon Prime Day. The annual shopping holiday is typically held in the summer, but with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Amazon focused on providing essential items to those who need them during the summer months and pushed Amazon Prime Day off until the fall. Fortunately, there are some great bonuses available now to help you earn points on Amazon Prime Day.

Shoppers are looking forward to taking advantage of unprecedented deals to come October 13 and 14. Amazon has blasted the new dates in many of its advertisements leading up to the event. It offers many shoppers the perfect opportunity to begin holiday shopping early.

But beyond snagging deals on Prime products, tech (like noise-canceling headphones for travel or working from home), and home goods, you can also get another benefit from Amazon Prime Day: extra points and miles from all that online shopping. So, as you purchase your holiday gifts for family members, you’ll also be gifting yourself points and miles to go toward your next trip.

How can you make the most out of Amazon Prime Day?

Make Sure You Have An Amazon Prime Membership

First things first: You need to ensure your Amazon Prime membership is up to date before Amazon Prime Day if you want to take advantage of any deals. Luckily, if you don’t currently have a membership, you can get a 30-day free trial. If you cancel within the month, you’ll have access to the sale without being charged.

However, many find that membership is well worth the $13 per month, given the benefits, such as streaming shows and movies, early shipping, and more.

What Credit Card Should I Use During Amazon Prime Day?

There are a few credit cards that you’ll want to consider using during Amazon Prime Day. Some of the cards have incredible signup/welcome bonuses as well. Many of the cards featured are also offering some of the best credit card offers available now.

American Express Credit Cards

A new targeted offer for American Express cardholders came to light late last month. It’s worth checking to see if it’s available to you, depending on what American Express card you have. Some users have reported that it’s available to them across several different AmEx cards.

Through Nov. 13, eligible Memberships Rewards members will earn 5 Membership Rewards points for each $1 spent on eligible purchases on Amazon. You can earn up to 2,000 Membership Rewards points via the offer, or on up to $400 spent.

So, if you have an eligible American Express card and want to specifically earn Membership Rewards points, this is an easy way to earn quintuple points during Amazon Prime Day.

Tip: You can also use the CardMatch™ tool to see if there are any targeted offers available specifically for you.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

Okay, so this one is a bit tricky. Yes, you’re only earning 1x points on your purchases with Amazon when you use your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. But, if you’re a new cardholder — or even thinking about being a new cardholder — it’s worth considering using the Chase Sapphire Preferred card during Amazon Prime Day.

New Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cardholders can earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, worth $1250 when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. This is the highest bonus offer ever for the Chase Sapphire Preferred!

Chase has air and hotel travel transfer partners, including Southwest, United, and Hyatt. Chase Sapphire Preferred points earn 25% more value when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Also, enjoy new Chase Sapphire benefits such as a $50 annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit, 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, 3x points on dining, and 2x points on all other travel purchases, plus more.

So, if you plan on dropping big money during Amazon Prime Day and you’ve been eyeing the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, now’s the time to jump on it.

The Platinum Card from American Express

If you’re not eligible for the American Express targeted offer detailed above and you already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you may want to see if adding The Platinum Card® from American Express to your wallet makes sense.
