Keep Your Gas Tank Full in Advance of a Storm

This might be a little late for Florida residents, but for people in the Carolinas and other places—and for future storms—here’s some good advice: At the first sign of a possible major storm make sure your gas tank is full (it’s always a good idea regardless of circumstances) and keep extra cases of bottled water and other emergency supplies in your house. You just never know, and you don’t want to have to fight the crowds or come up empty.

I learned this back in 1992 when the L.A. riots were taking place. I waited 90 minutes to get groceries and most of the shelves were empty. The lines for the gas stations and ATMs were so long that I didn’t even bother. I was reminded of this tip watching the news yesterday.

On a related note, we’ve updated our Hurricane Irma travel resource page. Please let us know if we forgot anything.
