reader-travel-tip2Heathrow Layover Made Easier
Each Friday, we’re featuring a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader Richard R., who built on my post about how to spend a layover at London Heathrow with this insightful comment:

“Just a short note—for getting to hotels around Heathrow, most people take the Hotel Hoppa, which can be quite expensive. However, a little known fact is that one can take any of a number of local buses, and these stop at all the hotels. The fare: free, if you’re just going within about a five-mile radius of Heathrow. Thus, if you want to stop in at The Pheasant (a place I’ve been going to for many years), just take the local bus to the Marriott or the Sheraton Skyline and walk two blocks up to The Pheasant. When you’re ready to go back to the airport, hop on another local bus (free) and you’ll be there in no time.”

A great insider tip, and one I’ll be sure to try next time I have a layover at Heathrow. Thanks Richard!

just be careful, not all buses go to all hotels. i made the mistake and had to walk back several blocks, in the rain, with no umbrella.
