Do you shop at T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Marshall’s, or Sierra often? If so, it’s likely you have been asked to apply for the TJ Maxx Credit Card during one of your shopping trips. The TJX Rewards Credit Card earns up to 5% back on purchases and redeem your points for $10 or $20 shopping credit.
This card doesn’t have an annual fee and can be the best way to maximize your TJX Rewards purchases if you are a frequent shopper. Now you can see if this card is worth the application.
TJX Rewards Credit Card vs TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard
The information for the TJX Rewards® Platinum Mastercard® and the TJX Rewards® Credit Card has been collected independently by Johnny Jet. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
There are actually two different versions of the TJ Maxx Credit Card. The first is the TJX Rewards® Platinum Mastercard®, a cash rewards credit card you can use anywhere Mastercard is accepted. The second card is the TJX Rewards® Credit Card, which is only accepted at the family of TJX Rewards stores.
Both cards earn 5% back on TJX purchases, let you redeem your points for TJX Rewards certificates, and have the same purchase APR.
The one difference is that TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard also lets earns 1% back on non-TJX Rewards purchases.
Which card you get depends on your credit score. Although you only need a 620 credit score (fair credit) to qualify, you might need a 670 credit score (good credit) to qualify for the Platinum Mastercard. You will find out which card you qualify for once you submit an application.
10% Off Your First Purchase
The signup bonus is 10% off your first in-store or online purchase.
Your coupon will state if there is a maximum dollar amount you can save on your first purchase. The one redemption restriction listed is that if you apply for the TJ Maxx Credit Card on a mobile device, you can only redeem your 10% off coupon in-store. Applying from a desktop or tablet lets you redeem your coupon in-store or online.
There are no promotional interest rates for this card. The good news is that you never pay an annual fee.
5% Back on Purchases
You earn 5 points per $1 spent on online and in-store purchases at these retailers:
- T.J. Maxx
All other purchases earn an unlimited 1point per $1. If you happen to shop at a TJX Companies store outside the United States or Puerto Rico, those purchases only earn 1 point per $1.
Because you can use this card for non-TJX Rewards stores, this is a credit card and not a store charge card.
This isn’t a bad rewards rate. In fact, some of the best cash back credit cards 2019 award up to 5% back. The only “catch” is that only the T.J. Maxx family of stores earns 5% back.
Redeeming TJX Rewards
Your points are redeemable for a rewards certificate for online and in-store purchases at the same TJX Rewards brands that earn 5% back. These certificates are only issued in $10 or $20 increments. A $10 certificate requires 1,000 points.
Your points expire within two years of the issue date. For instance, any points you earn in December 2019 must be redeemed by December 2021.
The easiest way to avoid losing your points is to spend at least $200 within 24 months at the participating 5% bonus stores to earn enough points for a $10 store certificate. Once again, the 5% bonus stores are T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra, and Homesense.
Exclusive Shopping Events
The one additional card perk of having this card is the chance to have private shopping events. These events may include exclusive giveaways, instant-win prizes with select purchases, and sweepstakes entries.
This card doesn’t have an annual fee. This can be a free way to build credit and earn unlimited TJX Rewards if you pay your balance in full each month.
You can pay your monthly balance online in the Synchrony Bank member portal or by mailing payment. Your local T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra, or Homesense don’t accept payments.
If you’re looking for other cards that don’t have annual fees but maybe have more flexibility outside of TJX Rewards, check out some of the best travel credit cards with no annual fees.
Who Should Apply?
This card is your best option if you spend at least $200 every 24 months at TJX Rewards stores to get the $10 shopping certificate. If you have the Mastercard version, earning 1% on non-TJX purchases is a nice perk but other cards can provide more valuable rewards on non-TJX purchases.
You might also like this card if you want a free way to build credit and want to earn purchase rewards. You don’t have the negative stigma that can come with owning a secured credit card.
- Earn 5% back at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra, and Homesense
- Can get 1% back on non-TJX Rewards purchases (Platinum Mastercard only)
- 10% back on your first TJX purchase after card approval
- No annual fee
- Can only redeem points for TJX Rewards shopping certificates
- Points expire after 24 months
- High purchase APR

The TJ Maxx Credit Card is a good option if you spend at least $200 at TJX Rewards brands that earn 5% back. More importantly, you must also be ok with only being able to redeem your rewards points for TJX Rewards shopping certificates. If you don’t like these limitations, a flexible rewards credit card can be a better fit.
