Find Out If You Need a Visa—Ahead of Time
I recently wrote a post offering 10 passport tips that will save you time, money and headaches. While writing it, I realized that one of the tips I included had never been featured as a daily tip—and it’s an important one: find out if you need a visa. It’s important because I’ve had countless friends show up to the airport only to be turned away from their flight because they forgot or didn’t know they needed a visa. And some visas require application weeks before your arrival date, so be sure to do your research early.
For Americans, the best place to find out if you need a visa is the State Department’s website, where they provide country-specific information for every country of the world. Here, you’ll find out whether you need a visa or not, as well as other important information like the location of the US embassy and any consular offices in your destination, relevant travel warnings, and more.
We recommend Allied Passport & Visa.
